Mosaic benches

It took more than two years to complete the mosaic benches in Pierkespark. Ghent-based artist Schéherazade Bourahli, together with numerous volunteers and local residents, dedicated many weekends to the project.

The benches are inspired by the famous Park Güell in Barcelona, designed by Antoni Gaudí.

Schéherazade Bourahli (b. 1968) has been creating mosaic art since 1998. The Belgian-Algerian artist graduated in African languages and history and draws inspiration from art across the globe. She had her breakthrough when she collaborated with renowned glass artist Colin Heaney on his 'Casa Blu' in Byron Bay, Australia. Her work incorporates a wide range of materials, including ceramics, glass, shells, natural stones, and found objects.
