OMG! Van Eyck Walking Map
The Van Eyck walking map guides you through buildings and locations in Ghent that Jan Van Eyck likely saw with his own eyes. The map connects 35 locations in the city to details from the Ghent Altarpiece.
Along the way, you’ll deepen your knowledge of the city’s history, discover hidden gems, and be guided to fascinating visual details. When you finally stand before the Ghent Altarpiece, you’ll recognize the elements you encountered during the walk — and recall the stories you read along the route.
(Please note: entry to the Ghent Altarpiece visitor centre is not included.)
The walking map is available in Dutch and English.
In 2020 and 2021, Ghent celebrated the OMG! Van Eyck Year with a wide range of events dedicated to the Van Eyck brothers and their masterpiece. Even after the festivities, Van Eyck remains in the spotlight. The painting now has a brand-new visitor centre in St Bavo’s Cathedral, and at the Museum of Fine Arts (MSK), you can watch the restoration of the panels live.
