60 years of Amnesty International
With this evocative portrait of a student writing a letter, Kitsune refers to human rights organisation Amnesty International as well as to Ghent University.
The letter, the candle and the yellow envelope refer to Amnesty International’s trademark: letters can help liberate prisoners, and candles are a symbol of hope.
The university has played an important role in Amnesty International’s history. This mural was created on the occasion of Amnesty International’s 60th anniversary.
Kitsune Jolene is the pseudonym of Jolien De Waele (°1992), a graffiti artist based in Ghent. She has created works in Portugal and Dubai. She often portrays women, animals and plants, sometimes with subtle references to various cultures and myths.
