Bué

Imaginative figures in colour

Located in Wondelgem, this place used to be nothing more than a plot of grass and an ugly concrete wall. Now it is a play area with a colourful wall.

In the winter of 2022-2023, the Parks & Gardens department of the City of Ghent will turn it into a play area for local children up to 6 years old.  A survey demonstrated that local residents preferred to see a brightly coloured drawing that appealed to children.  Eventually, the design by Bué was the best match with young children’s fantasy.

Bué the Warrior, aka Dave De Rop, is a pioneer in the Belgian street art scene.  He grew up in a family of cartoonists.  Bué has developed his own accessible visual language via colour and positive energy. With his colourful creations, he has left his mark on the streetscape not just of Ghent but also of other cities around the world.

By his own account, Bué is a real ‘street kid’, constantly looking for interesting spots to leave his art. He also enjoys working together with other artists and is not afraid to combine different styles.
