Artist Maria Roosen is known for her trademark hand-blown glass sculptures. She drew inspiration from the neighbourhood itself. The doves symbolise the diverse community of the densely populated Brugse Poort neighbourhood. This gave Roosen the idea to interpret the library as one large dovecote. The highly realistic doves were produced by Italian master glassblower Pino Signoretto from Murano.
