Kasper Bosmans
To remind local residents and passers-by of the rural past of this quarter, artist Kasper Bosmans made a piece of art with enamelled panels on which a cabbage field is depicted. The cabbage field is a nod to the inhabitants of the area between Holstraat and Einde Were, who were called koolkappers (cabbage choppers).
Bosmans combined the pattern of a cabbage field with a legend about the history of the quarter to show its unique character. The legend refers to the origins of the Ghent Floralies in the Frascata inn, the Papegaai mill’s history, the many dance halls and pubs alongside Coupure and agriculture in general.
