The Large AVL Man
The sculpture at E3-plein square in Ledeberg leaves much to the imagination. We are talking about ‘The Large AVL Man’ created by Atelier Joep Van Lieshout, an international team of artists which has become a fixture in the Netherlands. The sculpture not only cheers up its surroundings, but can also serve as playground equipment or as a seating unit thanks to its playful shape.
To some it might look familiar, as the figure could be spotted in Ghent on several occasions. During the outside exhibition ‘Over The Edges’ organised by S.M.A.K, it was on display on Vrijdagmarkt square. Afterwards, the city bought the work and had it set up in Keizerspark. In 2006, the sculpture reached its final destination and it can now be admired at the renovated E3-plein square.
