The poem 'Ghent' by Richard Minne is displayed on the news ticker in Overpoortstraat and completes the Ghent poetry route, a walking route along poems in the streets of Ghent.

The display of Richard Minne’s poem in Overpoortstraat confirms that the poems of the poetry route can be found at unexpected locations. Sometimes they are clearly visible, at other times they are well hidden.

Displaying a piece by a Ghent poet in a lively nightlife area is not very obvious. It is located in the middle of the action, surrounded by bars. However, the poem certainly comes into its own at this location. Irony, humour and rebelliousness characterise Richard Minne's oeuvre, and his critical tribute to Ghent is an excellent example of this.

The medium of the poem, a news ticker with large red letters, imitates the language of the surrounding illuminated billboards. Written in 1942, the poem 'Ghent' is certainly worth reflecting on in the wee hours.
