Melopee

“Onder de maan schuift de lange rivier
Over de lange rivier schuift moede de maan
Onder de maan op de lange rivier
schuift de kano naar zee”

(Under the moon moves the long river
Over the long river moves the tired moon
Under the moon on the long river
the canoe moves to the sea)

The Poetry Route in the Ghent city centre is one of oldest in Flanders. Since 2000, several poems have been installed in numerous, sometimes surprising, places in the city, including the banks on Graslei and Korenlei. A fragment of the poem Melopee by Paul Van Ostaijen is engraved on the old quays. A fantastic poetic addition to the neighbourhood that does Graslei and Korenlei justice.
