The Passers-by
A sculpture by Michaël Borremens has been on display just in front of the municipal library De Krook. The artwork ‘De Passanten’ (The Passers-by) is Borremans’ second creation for a public space in Ghent, after his painting ‘The Virgin’ which is on display at the City Pavilion. Four colourful figures, each with a height of 3 metres (10 feet) are literally putting their heads together to share knowledge and information.
Belgian top artist Michaël Borremans lives and works in Ghent, and it was therefore evident for him to leave his mark on Ghent’s public spaces. Borremans used miniature scale figures to design his sculpture, making sure he would achieve the right composition. He eventually had his creation enlarged to a scale of 3 metres high and painted the sculpture himself afterwards. With ‘De Passanten’ Ghent obtained an icon.
