Photo art
The train station and its surroundings are more than just a place of passage. It should be an inviting area in which Ghent citizens, travellers and tourists enjoy spending time. This is why at the start of the renovations it was decided to integrate a hundred metre long (330 feet) photo montage by Swiss artist Beat Streuli into the building.
Beat Streuli is internationally known for his photo and video installations in which he incorporates portraits of people strolling through the city. His installation in the tunnel at Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station consists of several photo panels behind glass. The tunnel is meant to give a first impression of Ghent as a creative city.
