Wannes Cools draws inspiration from popcult comics. He reshapes images from these comics into landscapes, focusing on the image’s colour and scale.

By magnifying the images and by painting on canvas, he also changes their intrinsic value. He deliberately aims for suggestive imagery that can be freely interpreted by the spectator.

His focus is particularly on colour harmony and clean design. He makes use of spray paint and canvas, which creates the appearance of a screen print. This choice of materials enables him to avoid brushstrokes.
