Roa - Gents Universiteitsmuseum
In the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown, globally praised muralist ROA finished his masterpiece on the façade of GUM (Ghent University Museum). The new science museum provides the canvas for a beautiful stack of skeletons of an elephant, a rhinoceros, a grizzly bear and an okapi.
With this mural, ROA again demonstrates his love for animal anatomy, a recurring theme in his work. His main source of inspiration was the exceptional collections and stories of the GUM. The GUM is located in the centre of Ghent, where ROA was born. A large part of the natural history collections are hidden in the storerooms underneath the museum, so the inspiration for the work was almost literally within arm's reach.
