The Stream
Mural on the façade of ‘De Stroom’, the former Electrabel building close to Ghent South that now houses a number of the city’s support services.
Toykyo opted for a dynamic design with abstract elements which also cover the different possible interpretations of 'De Stroom' (“the stream” in English). For example, the work includes two rivers that represent the Lys and the Scheldt. The composition is very lively, which symbolises the dynamic character of the building and the city. The mural literally overlooks Ghent South and refers to De Krook and arts centre Vooruit in a typical Toykyo style.
The structure of the mural harmonises with that of the surrounding landscape, starting with the water at the bottom, changing to undulating elements that are complementary to the slope of Lammerstraat, and ending explosively in the air ... the sky is the limit :)
