Before the submarine’s installation in 2012, several ceramic fish had adorned the square, but needed to be replaced after they had been badly damaged.  The submarine was created by artist Bob Vandeputte with help from the pupils of local primary school ‘Het Klaverblad’. The work consists of several concrete tiles in relief, adorned with children’s drawings.
