Suikinkutsu

Within the scope of the redesign of Willem de Beersteeg and Visserij parks, Italian artist Roberta Gigante was given carte blanche for two artworks. In both cases, she came up with an installation that plays with sound and water.

For this artwork she drew inspiration from a ‘suikinkutsu’, a Japanese garden ornament and musical device. A ceramic jar is dug into the ground and serves as the sound box for water condensation dropping drop by drop, creating soft and relaxing sounds that seem to come from an unseen depth and tell an untold tale.
