Wollah Van Eyck was here: Lamb of God
For the calligraphy (graffiti) exhibition ‘Wollah Van Eyck was here’, Dema One and Lennart Gavel (Ship of Fools) created a mural together in the tunnel under Herberg Macharius. They painted words of hope, peace and connection in Latin and Arabic script. The words had been submitted by local residents and express how they experience their own neighbourhood. The work of art establishes a connection between eastern and western art and culture, but is also a neighbourhood connecting project that radiates positivity.
The composition of their work is based on the Ghent Altarpiece, and the golden halos behind Mary and John the Baptist in the middle panel in particular, hence their choice of colours, gold and black. Van Eyck’s signature is a playful reference to his work.
