Spogo

Patijntjestraat 27 , 9000 Gent Spogo

The side wall of Sint-Paulus parochial centre is a project by Treepack.
Spogo makes use of the building’s shape and interrupts the rectangular-horizontal line with a large circle, a series of geometric shapes and vertical structures. He uses a palette of blue and violet to suggest different depths and turquoise for the circle.

Smok

Ferdinand Lousbergskaai , 9000 Gent Smok

Three local service centres, De Horizon, De Boei and De Thuishaven, are housed in an apartment block. As a result, their offices are little visible and people often pass by without noticing them. Older local residents sometimes do not even know that they can go there for services and activities.
Instead of working with classic façade banners with photographs, the Elderly Care Department of the City of Ghent opted for murals. The three centres have large blind side walls that are ideal for this purpose.

Smaaklik

Centrumplein , 9000 Gent Ismail Farouk

In 2016 the new Centrumplein square was inaugurated along with Ismail Farouk’s artwork. The installation consists of stacked concrete shapes, spelling out the word ‘SMAAKLIK’, which is Afrikaans for ‘enjoy your meal’. Food and art bring people together. Primarily, the work should serve as a meeting place and is an ideal play, sitting or picnic area.

Siegfried Vynck

Pieter Vanderdoncktdoorgang , 9000 Gent Siegfried Vynck

In 2015, football club KAA Gent (also known as “the Buffaloes”) won the Belgian Cup for the very first time; on this occasion, Ostend artist Siegfried Vynck created this mural in Buffalo style. It depicts a Native American chief dressed in blue and white, an eagle, a dream catcher and five large bison heads. The Buffalo theme is obvious to the inhabitants of Ghent, but passers-by who don’t understand the reference can enjoy the artwork too.
The owner of the building, an art lover originally from Ostend, wanted to have something special created on the façade and tell a feel good story in the Zuidbuurt neighbourhood.

This impressive mural is located in an alley in the inner city. The artwork has been painted on the rear wall of the building of Familiezorg, an autonomous service for family care and supplementary home care.

Sam Scarpulla created this artwork for Oxfam International in 2017 within the context of a fair trade campaign. The concept: if you don’t like the rules, it is better to burn them before they take over everything.
