This colourful work by Sam Scarpulla can still be seen. There used to be a small park here, but it has now been closed. The owner wants to have a new building constructed here; as a result, this artwork will disappear. The local community has created a Facebook group to save this site.

On 22 April 2015, the entire city centre of Ghent became a 30 km zone, which means that the speed limit was reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h in all streets within the R40 ring road. This measure was aimed at making Gent a more pleasant, safe and accessible city as well as at combatting global warming.

The frog and the stork

Kokerstraat , 9000 Gent Plur

Few people had ever heard of community centre De Ooievaar, which was better known as “the hall in Kokerpark”. For this reason, a stork (“ooievaar” in Dutch) was painted on its façade. And a frog which takes cover as the stork wants to swallow it whole. Wallin’ asked Ghent artist PLUR to create the two murals in Kokerpark.

Mystic Leaves

Kouter , 9000 Gent Jessica Diamond

When you think of Ghent, you think of the Ghent Altarpiece. American artist Jessica Diamond drew inspiration from the plants depicted on the altarpiece. Her creation titled ‘Mystic Leaves’ consists of eighteen leaves, spread across Kouter square. In between the leaf veins you can spot the names of plants and flowers written in Middle Dutch, the language that the Van Eyck brothers spoke.

Blind Wall

The wall at Jongenstragel is the perfect example of Ghent’s soft spot for street art. It is adorned with not one, but two works of art! For the Blind Walls project, an artwork by Michel François was incorporated. The wall attracted much unwanted graffiti, and in order to get rid of it street art talent Joachim was contacted.
