    In the Rabot neighbourhood, artist Han Coussement joined forces with local young people. He asked them to document their living environment with disposable cameras.

    With this evocative portrait of a student writing a letter, Kitsune refers to human rights organisation Amnesty International as well as to Ghent University.

    At the entrance of the little park next to the Maria Goretti church, Bisser has depicted all sorts of fantastic creatures in bright colours crawling over the wall.

    pARTicular Matters

    Ham , 9000 Gent Planeet Janus e.a.

    This large mural is the result of a collaboration between The Polar Project, Graffiti vzw and Vermeylenfonds. Together, these organisations set up a project in which young people from Flanders and Brussels could get creative on a wall. The topic was climate change, which they saw taking place around them.

    Kitsune Jolene

    Hogeweg 41 , 9000 Gent Kitsune

    The owners of this house at Hogeweg near the Ghent harbour commissioned Kitsune to create this drawing of two fishing herons on a side façade.

    Jeps & Boris

    Heidestraat , 9050 Gentbrugge Jeps & Boris

    In Gentbrugge, the duo Jeps & Boris brightened up a drab façade with this wonderful drawing of a tropical parula, a bird that inhabits the Amazon rainforest. The artists opted for a colour palette that matched the blue woodwork of the house. The image and bird species were also chosen with this in mind. Thanks to the mainly blue background, the windows are integrated into the design without standing out.

    West-Site

    Nederkouter 124 , 9000 Gent Nigel Leirens

    Graffiti artist Nigel Leirens has turned a dilapidated façade into a work of art at the front of the burnt-out skate and snowboard shop West-Site. Some of the black soot left behind by the flames has been incorporated into the design. Shop owner Anton Claeys commissioned the graffiti.

    Portraits

    Rijsenbergstraat 131 , 9000 Gent Pavo Real

    Near Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station, at the front of a small park, you can find two murals with portraits by Pavo Real. Pavo Real’s friend Thib. helped him a little with the drawing in red.

    Snatching VOORUIT

    Pollepelstraat 9 , 9000 Gent Cigarra Entinta

    A magpie collects all sorts of shiny objects … With this metaphor, artist Cigarra Entinta wants to hearten Ghent after the loss of the name ‘Vooruit’ to the Flemish socialist party.

    Children rights

    Sint-Martensstraat , 9000 Gent Jamz

    This artful children’s rights mural is the result of a street art commissioned by tZitemzo, a Ghent non-profit organisation that defends the rights of young people. It was created by Jeremiah Persyn, aka Jamz Jamezon.

    You’re never lonely alone

    This mural of a man carrying a smaller man on his hands is titled ‘You’re never lonely alone’. The work is intended as support for anyone who is sometimes struggling and symbolises well-being and mental resilience.
